Worldle: frequently asked questions
Short answers about the rules, the hints, the two modes and your statistics.
Playing Worldle
What is Worldle?
Worldle is a geography puzzle. You see the silhouette of a country or territory and have 6 guesses to name it. After each wrong guess the game tells you how far away the answer is, in which direction and how close you are as a percentage.
Which places can be the answer?
Countries, islands and territories. The daily answer comes from a list of 236 places, from Russia and Antarctica down to Vatican City, and you can type any of 245. Places such as Greenland, Puerto Rico and French Polynesia are included even though they are not independent countries.
How do I enter a guess?
Type the name into the input under the shape and choose it from the suggestions, then press the Guess button or Enter. Enter sends the highlighted suggestion directly. Capital letters and accents do not matter, and short forms such as USA, UK or UAE are accepted. England, Scotland and Wales are not in the list; for them, the answer is United Kingdom.
What happens if I type a name the game does not know?
The game shows a short message and keeps what you typed, so you can fix it. An unknown name or a country you have already guessed never uses up one of your 6 guesses.
How can I make the game harder?
Open the settings and turn on Hide shape, which hides the silhouette, or Rotate shape, which turns it by an angle that is the same for everyone that day. If you finish a round with the shape still hidden or rotated, your share text marks it.
Distance, direction and percentage
How is the distance calculated?
It is the distance along the Earth's surface between the center point of your guess and the center point of the hidden country. You can show it in kilometers or miles; the game starts in miles in the United States, the United Kingdom, Liberia and Myanmar and in kilometers elsewhere.
Why does a neighboring country show hundreds of kilometers?
Because the game measures from center to center, not from border to border. Germany and Poland share a border, but their center points are 607 km apart. For huge countries such as Russia or Canada the center can be thousands of kilometers from the border you had in mind.
What does the percentage mean?
It shows how close your guess is on a scale of 20,000 km, half the way around the Earth. Every 200 km of distance takes off one point, so 95% means the answer is 801 to 1,000 km away. Only the right answer gets 100%.
What do the colored squares mean?
They are the percentage as five squares: one green square for every full 20%, and a yellow one when the rest is 10 or more. 87% gives four green squares, 95% four green and one yellow. Five green squares mean you found the country.
Which way does the arrow point?
From your guess toward the hidden country, as a compass direction on a normal flat world map. It is rounded to one of 8 directions (north, northeast, east and so on), so it shows the rough way, not an exact line.
Daily, Practice and bonus rounds
When does the daily country change?
At midnight in your local time zone. After your round, a countdown on the result card shows how long it is until the next one.
Does everyone get the same country?
Yes. Everyone who plays on the same date gets the same country, so you can compare results with friends. A country does not come back within 100 days.
Can I play the puzzles of previous days?
Yes. The archive has the daily puzzles of the last 30 days. Those rounds count in your history and statistics, but they never change your streak.
What is Practice mode?
Practice gives you unlimited random countries. You can limit it to one region (Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe or Oceania) and choose whether small islands and territories under 5,000 km² can come up. It has its own statistics and does not affect your daily streak.
What are the bonus rounds and stars?
After the daily country you can pick its flag from 4 and its capital from 4. Each right answer earns a star, up to 2 a day. Stars appear on your result, in your statistics and in the share text. You can play them even after a lost round.
Stats, saving and the site
How does the streak work?
Your streak counts the days in a row on which you found the daily country. A lost round or a day without playing starts it again from zero. Your best streak is kept in your statistics.
I played on the old version of this site. Are my stats still there?
Yes. The first time you open the new version in the same browser, it reads the games and settings that the old version saved, so your history, statistics and streak continue.
Can I move my stats to another phone or browser?
No. Your games are saved only in the browser you play in, and we do not keep accounts. Clearing the site data in your browser deletes your statistics and streak.
Is WorldleGame.net the original Worldle?
No. WorldleGame.net is an independent site that has offered Worldle since 2022. The game on it is our own version, written from scratch. We are not affiliated with the creators of the original Worldle or any company that uses a similar name.
Is there a Worldle app?
Yes, we make an Android app called Worldle - Guess the Country. It is free on Google Play, works offline, has unlimited practice and keeps your streaks, in 31 languages. There is no iPhone version.
In which languages can I play?
The site and the game are available in 16 languages, with country names in each of them. English country names are accepted on every language version.
